Week 22 - Living Water

Welcome in our beautiful chapel. The place where we encounter God. He is inviting me to enter into contact with Him. Am I ready to meet Him? I become still and quiet in myself in order to take up His invitation.

Theme: Living water.

God makes me thirsty. In this way He ensures that I am able to live in His Holy Spirit.

My desire:

That Jesus can quench my thirst and that I can learn from Him what is good for me.

Music: The Fountain of Life. Songs for the Masses (Psalm 36)

Continue love to those who know You

Your righteousness to the upright in heart

Feed them from the fullness of Your house

You give them drink from Your river of delights

Chorus:

You have the fountain of life

You have the fountain of life

In Your Light we see Light

You have the fountain of life

Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains

Your justice is as deep as the sea

How precious is Your unfailing love

That we find shelter in the shadow of Your wreath.

John 4, 4 – 14

Now he had to go through Samaria. So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.

Jesus is sitting by the well. The well is a place where people meet each other. I sit next to Jesus by the Jacob’s well and take in the surroundings.

*

When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, ‘Will you give me a drink?’ (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)

The Samaritan woman said to him, ‘You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?’ (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)

Jesus speaks to the Samaritan woman and asks her for some water, even though many people avoid contact with her. Can I place this scene within the context of my life today? What comes to mind?

*

Jesus answered her, ‘If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.’

‘Sir,’ the woman said, ‘you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water?  Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?’

Jesus answered, ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.’

‘If you knew the gift of God’, if I knew the gift of God for me: What does God WANT to give me, (water to live a richer life)? What is the water from which I truly live? The fountain of life for me?
