Week 21 - Choosing with Jesus in mind
Welcome in this beautiful chapel for another guided meditation.
I quieten myself by paying attention to my breathing but without trying to change it. With every breath in I breathe in God’s love for me. With every breath out I let go of my worries and concerns.
Theme:
What is essential for my life as a Christian?
Which choices should I make for the rest of my life now that I have encountered Jesus so closely?
What I desire:
That I am able to answer Jesus’ invitation and can make choices for my life which are in tune with what I have seen in Him.
Music: Lord, Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace. John Rutter. The Cambridge Singers.
Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace;
Where there is hatred
Let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy;
And all for thy mercy's sake
O divine Master
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as o console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love;
For it is in giving hat we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life

Mark 9: 2- 3, 7
Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them….
Jesus brings peace, love, forgiveness, faith, hope, joy and light. The darkness in the world cannot overcome His light. And there, on the mountain, Jesus radiates this light and joy in the presence of His good friends.
In imagination I go up the mountain with jesus and His friends and I look at Jesus who is glorified and becomes completely radiant. What do I see in Him? What does that evoke in me?
*
…. Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!’
I stand on the mountain and I hear God’s voice. His command to listen to Jesus is also intended for me. God experiences joy in His Son and calls on me to listen to Him. What does jesus want to say to me? What do I desire to receive from Him?
*
I will read the first part of Saint Francis’ prayer for peace. He asks for many things. Which words touch me the most? Which words would I like to include in my own prayers.

The Peace Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi (1181-1226)
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is error, truth;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in self-forgetting that we find;
And it is in dying to ourselves that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
