Week 27 - Death is Conquered
Theme:
The whole community which had gathered around Jesus is in a state of shock because of what happened to Jesus. But they begin to come to their senses, first the women. It is not easy to let the new reality truly sink in.
What I may wish to ask:
That I have the courage to allow what is happening here, when Jesus rises from the dead, to really enter my understanding.
That I may truly believe in the Risen Lord.
That I can be part of the group of people who witness to Christ’s new life.
In order to enter into prayer I become still and allow myself to realise that God is happy to see me here today, that He is happy to meet me. Can I be truly present to Him? I take the time needed to do this.

Luke 24, 1-11
But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in, they did not find the body.
I walk together with the women to the tomb. What are they saying to each other? I can also tell them what I am feeling now: my sorrow, fears, anger. What is happening here?
*
While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel; and as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen.
In the first century women were not taken seriously. And yet it is women who first hear the good news. God’s message comes to us very often from unexpected people.
Do I see examples of this in my own life?
*
Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise.” And they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Mag′dalene and Jo-an′na and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told this to the apostles; but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them.
The reaction of the disciples shows us that the resurrection, the rising of Jesus from the tomb, is far from obvious. Our faith in the resurrection is sometimes a matter of searching and questioning. How is that for me? What is my new reality? I am being invited to let the Good News really get through to me. And to bear witness to this.
What do I want to say to God at the end of this meditation?
