Week 4 - God’s presence in my life

Welcome in this meditation for week 4. The theme is God’s presence in my life. I become still within and open myself to what unfolds.

*

Theme:

I look at my own life story in order to discover where God was present in my life until now. My life with its good and it’s bad days, with moments of light and also moments of darkness.

What I desire:

That I can see how God has been present in my life as it has so far unfolded.

Genesis 28, 10-17a Jacob’s ladder

Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran. When he had reached a certain place, he stopped there for the night, since the sun had set. He took one of the stones of that place, made it his pillow and lay down where he was. He had a dream: there was a ladder, planted on the ground with its top reaching to heaven; and on it were God’s angels, going up and down.

Angels form a link between heaven and earth. Do I experience that link? In what way?

And there was the LORD, standing over him and saying, ‘I am the LORD, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The ground on which you are lying I shall give to you and your descendants. Your descendants will be as the dust on the ground; you will spread out to west and east, to north and south, and all families on earth will bless themselves by you and your descendants. And see, I am with you; I shall keep you safe wherever you go, and bring you back to this land, for I shall not desert you until I have done what I have promised you.’

God makes a promise full of blessings to Jacob: land, descendants, protection. In what ways do I feel blessed?

*

Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, ‘Truly, the LORD is in this place and I did not know!’ He was afraid and said, ‘How awesome is this place! It is none other than the abode of God; it is the gate of heaven!’

In our daily lives it can be difficult to experience the presence of God in our lives. Very often we only realize His presence when we look back. Have there been moments in my life which I now realize God was present? How did I come to discover that He had been present in those moments?
