Week 26 - Holy Saturday

Theme:

It is Holy Saturday. It is still and quiet. Very still.

The silence is deafening.

What on earth are we to do now?

What I desire:

That what Jesus has lived, may remain in me.

That I abide in his love.

Prayer:

In this moment I come to You,

my God,

still and full of reverence

gratefully knowing that You know me,

completely,

that You are waiting for me

and longing for me,

as my heart longs for You….

And everything becomes still.

Music: Ave Verum (from Stabat Mater. Karl Jenkins)

Ave verum corpus natum de Maria Virgine
Vere passum immolatum in cruce pro homine
Cuius latus perforatum fluxit aqua et sanguine
Esto nobis praegustatum mortis in examine

Ave verum corpus natum de Maria Virgine (ave verum)
Ave verum, ave verum
Vere passum immolatum in cruce pro homine
Cuius latus perforatum fluxit aqua et sanguine
Esto nobis praegustatum mortis in examine

Iesu dulcis, Iesu pie, Fili Mariae, Amen, Amen, Amen.

English:

Hail, true body, born of the Virgin Mary,
truly suffered, sacrificed on the Cross for mankind,

whose pierced side flowed with water and blood,

be for us a foretaste in the trial of death.

Sweet Jesus! Blessed Jesus, Son of Mary. Amen.

Matthew 27, 59 – 61

Joseph (of Aramathea) took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb.

The women have seen Jesus, whom they deeply loved, die on the cross. They watched while His body was laid in the tomb. Now they are sitting opposite the tomb. I join them and sit opposite the tomb with them…. And everything becomes still.

*

I remain sitting still and in silence. In my thoughts maybe with loved ones in my own life who have died. Or together with the women at Jesus’ tomb. I pay close attention to the images and feelings which spontaneously arise within me.
