Week 18 - Jesus Proclaims His Message

I prepare myself for an encounter with God. I am going to meet Him. In order to do that I become still in myself. I adopt a relaxed, and yet active, position. God welcomes me and I welcome Him too.

Theme:

I accept the authority with which Jesus speaks and how He unambiguously points out His way.

What I desire:

That I may sit at Jesus’ feet and hear His message. That I can experience Jesus touching my heart and supporting me in my powerlessness.

Matthew 5, 1-10 The Beatitudes

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him.  Then he began to speak, and taught them…..

Jesus goes up the mountain and sits down taking on the role of a teacher. I join the disciples and see the scene before me. I open myself in order to listen to Him.

*

Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

This is the core of Jesus’ teaching. ‘Blessed’ means truly happy. This reading turns our world, my world, upside down. If I, for example, mourn, then I shall be comforted. If I am poor in spirit?? Which of the beatitudes resonates most of all in my life at the moment?

If I ask God to give me the grace to see things going on around me in another or a new light, what would I see?
