Week 16 - Jesus calls

Theme:

I am being personally addressed.

What will I do?

What I desire:

That I may have a better understanding

of what Jesus does with people, including myself.

That I won’t be afraid

to make myself available to Him.

I place myself before God, before Jesus, who is looking at me with love.

Music: Theme tune from the film “The Mission” (Gabriel’s Oboe)

The oboe attracts people, calls them with its compelling sound. Listen to the Gospel text and imagine that you are hearing the voice of Jesus. Not only directed at His disciples but also for you personally.

Mark 1: 16 – 20

As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.  ‘Come, follow me,’Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.’  At once they left their nets and followed him.

When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

Something must have happened that prompted these men to follow Jesus.

Maybe Jesus is also calling my  name. How does that feel for me? Does it make me feel pleased,  happy, excited, or maybe even the opposite; do I feel reluctant?

*

Can I imagine feeling so enthusiastic about someone that I would be prepared to leave my family and friends behind in order to embark on something totally new?

*

Is that something I would like: to make such a totally new start in my life? But small steps in the right direction can also bring changes which can make me happy. I listen attentively to my own heart: to the voice of my deepest desire calling me.
